COR (Certificate of Recognition)

A Certificate of Recognition (COR) is a voluntary occupational health and safety accreditation awarded to employers in Canada who demonstrate that their health and safety management system meets provincial standards.

What Is COR?

The Certificate of Recognition (COR) program is administered by certifying partners (industry associations) under the oversight of provincial WCB or OHS bodies. It certifies that an employer's safety management system (SMS) has been independently audited and meets established standards.

Benefits of COR Certification

  • WCB premium rebates: Most provinces offer 5-20% refunds on Workers' Compensation premiums to COR-certified employers.
  • Competitive advantage: Many clients and prime contractors require COR as a prequalification for bidding on contracts.
  • Improved safety performance: The audit process itself drives continuous improvement in safety practices.

COR vs. SECOR

COR is designed for larger employers (typically 10+ employees), while SECOR (Small Employer Certificate of Recognition) targets smaller businesses with fewer than 10 workers. SECOR uses a simplified audit process.
